The NHS Scotland Event is the leading health Event in Scotland. The Event continues to be the ‘premier meeting place’ for those committed to providing sustainable high quality health and social care services for the people of Scotland.
Every year, the Event provides the opportunity for those working in and with the NHS in Scotland to come together to consider the challenges faced, to share best practice and the most innovative approaches to delivering the highest quality of care and to take away tools and techniques that will support them in their various roles.
The need to drive greater improvements and address the numerous challenges of developing a health and social care system that is fit for 21st century Scotland are well-rehearsed. People are living longer and increasingly need services that can support multiple health conditions. At the same time, parts of Scotland continue to experience health inequalities. While all public services are affected by financial challenges, these are being particularly felt in health and social care due to the increasing demand for services. The key to meeting these is transforming the care people receive from the NHS and other public services, working together to deliver improved outcomes.
Our aim for this year’s Event is to shine a light on key areas where NHS Scotland and its partners are driving that transformation, while at the same time ensuring the delivery of quality care – across boundaries and throughout the stages of people’s lives.
The triple aim of improving quality of care, improving the health of the population while securing value and financial sustainability continues to guide our priorities for health and social care. Through the relentless pursuit of our Quality Ambitions for person-centred, safe and effective care, we are driving improvements in the quality of care people receive.
Throughout the Event – including the poster exhibition – delegates will be able to see many examples of how a focus on this is improving the quality of care people receive and the outcomes they experience.
Action to transform care was set out in the Health and Social Care Delivery Plan, published in December 2016. This included the need to increase the pace of change in a number of key areas including public health reform; health and social care integration; Realistic Medicine; and digital health. Along with the emerging priority to address the mental health needs of the people of Scotland, this will guide the development of an Event programme that is guaranteed to engage delegates in some of the more important debates, initiatives and innovations in how we are Working Together, Improving Outcomes.
